Motor racing-Hamilton questions Ferrari 'tactics' - Formula 1

Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton File Sebastian Vettel right leads Lewis Hamilton by eight points in the drivers’ standings

"I accept it from [TV pundit] Jacques Villeneuve because he was a driver".

Out after Q1 went Carlos Sainz of Renault, complaining of traffic, McLaren's Stoffel Vandoorne and Sirotkin, joining Stroll and Hartley at the back of the provisional grid. If I can recall his words he suggested that the 44 car was damaged.

In the end, Hamilton, who also posted the overall lap record, secured a fourth consecutive pole. And that he did.

Hamilton's aggressive start allowed Vettel and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas to streak ahead.

"Josef was just so dominant, I didn't think we had anything for him", Hinchcliffe said.

But Mercedes will have to be careful as all the signs from Friday practice suggest Ferrari has the faster can on race pace.

"It is the way it is and we live to fight another day".

"We really win and lose as a team and we are really reunited now in the last few days and I can see how energised everyone is to be back". The Spaniard improved in second practice. "I deserved the penalty, but I kept fighting". "It felt like the most pressurised lap I have ever had".

He had taken a superb pole position, just edging out Vettel and Raikkonen on Saturday, but had too much wheelspin off the line and immediately dropped behind Vettel and Bottas. "The stewards realised what's going on here".

This is a step away from the previous stance by the FIA which has seen DRS banned through the tunnel in Monaco, up Eau Rouge at Spa and at 130R at Suzuka.

A furious Hamilton and his Mercedes team believed Raikkonen may have crashed into him on purpose to afford Sebastian Vettel free reign at the front of the field.

"That was an incredible race - thrilling right to the finish and full of drama". We clearly have work to do on our starts, as we lost ground once again to Ferrari.

Raikkonen's team-mate Sebastian Vettel took the chequered flag, two weeks after being involved in a similar incident with Hamilton's colleague Valtteri Bottas at the French GP.

Vettel admitted he almost withdrew from qualifying with a neck injury, but insisted he will be fit to race.

"It was all Lewis".

Mercedes' chief strategist James Vowles is in the spotlight after his strategy blunder - the team's third in nine races this season - and his very public apology to Hamilton over the team radio.

"Obviously the magic this weekend will be to try and keep them as cool as possible".

He'll be the first to admit it.

"It's you guys that help me get me through today". Well with the rear wing flap operated by button or brake, it means if a driver does neither he could take Abbey and Farm, the first two corners, flat-out with the wing open.

His lap of one minute 25.892 seconds was a track record.

Although we have endured a couple of difficult weekends, this has not been because the car was slow but for a host of other unconnected reasons.
