The San Antonio Spurs, once again, competed as long and as hard as they could against the defending champion Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of their opening round series. Erin and Gregg Popovich were married four decades and have two children and two grandchildren.

The team did not air a video tribute or hold a moment of silence for Erin Popovich in an apparent attempt to make the game as routine as possible for its players, but that was impossible.

Assistant coach Ettore Messina will coach in Popovich's absence as the Spurs try to turn the series around after losing the first two encounters.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs with 18 points while 35-year-old Tony Parker delivered 16 points in a throw-back performance.

James calls him a "mastermind of the game" and has said he'd consider playing for the U.S. under Popovich at the 2020 Tokyo Games after skipping the Rio Olympics. And Iguodala had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. "Not many people know the type of gal that Erin was". His size, length and intelligence on the defensive end discouraged a lot of drives and prevented a lot of shots.

Already on the edge of their seats for the first home game of the playoffs, fans erupted when Rudy Gay threw down a one-handed dunk over Golden State's JaVale McGee.

Golden State leads the series 3-0, placing the Spurs at the brink of elimination. "She was part of the family, but she's dealt with a lot over the last few years health-wise and has been very courageous".

He said: "Both sprained ankles". Curry is expected to return for the second round, if the Warriors advance.

Kevin Durant: He had a game-high 26 points on 52.9 percent shooting, nine rebounds and six assists. The cheering was nearly constant as the Spurs scored the game's first six points before the Warriors began to settle in.

The decision comes a day after the Spurs announced Popovich's wife, Erin, had died at the age of 67. In fact, Kerr grew so close with Erin Popovich that he almost got his longtime friend in trouble.

"Erin was sort of the balance that Pop needed", Kerr said with a laugh.
