The World Health Organisation said on Wednesday that 43 people had died in Saturday's attack on Douma from "symptoms consistent with exposure to highly toxic chemicals", and more than 500 in all had been treated.
These "voices" and "any possible action" from the West "will contribute nothing but an increase in instability in the region, threatening international peace and security", the Syrian leader stressed, speaking to Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In a morning tweet, Trump referred to SyrianPresidentBashar Assad as a "Gas Killing Animal" and rebuked Russia for being "partners" with the Middle East strongman.
British and French forces can be expected to take part in the response to Assad's use of chemical weapons, the former Pentagon official said.
Trump's spokeswoman dismissed this idea, and pointedly refused to acknowledge that concern about the risks of a direct confrontation with Russia would hold the US military back. It seems almost certain Trump will also respond militarily to the 2018 gassing.

The Eurocontrol airspace organization said that the European Aviation Safety Agency had sent a "Rapid Alert Notification" that flight operators needed to consider the possibility of air or missile strikes on Syria within the next 72 hours.
After the Douma attack, the insurgent group dug in there - Jaish al-Islam - finally agreed to withdraw. The U.S. mission is to support local militias fighting the Islamic State, but the U.S. has avoided clashing with Assad's armed forces or their Iranian and Russian backers.
President Trump broke with US national security procedures to warn that an attack on Syria was imminent on Wednesday after the Russian ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin said that his country would shoot down US weapons targeting Syria and destroy the site where the missiles were launched. In 2013, Parliament defeated a call by then-Prime Minister David Cameron for airstrikes in response to an earlier chemical attack in Syria.
At another point, Trump blamed the bad relationship on Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russians who sought to influence the 2016 presidential election through hacks and fake news.
Sanders says the U.S.is confident in laying blame on the Syriangovernment and its Russian allies for Saturday's deadly attack in Douma.
The Syrian pound lost nearly 10 percent of its value on prospects of an American attack, going from about 430 Syrian pounds to the dollar last week to 469 Wednesday.
