Democrats and liberals overwhelmingly find Comey more believable; independents and moderates side with Comey as well, by 48-29 and 57-22 per cent, respectively.

Toward the end of the 2016 campaign, Trump praised "the courage" of the FBI for reopening its investigation of Clinton's use of a private email server - a development Clinton has blamed for her election loss.

Comey's interview comes ahead of the publication of his book "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership". "Again, I don't care what your views are on guns or immigration or taxes". Even on the darkest days, in unprecedented situations, he upheld his oath to the Constitution.

Comparing the President to a mafia boss, he claimed that Trump was left vulnerable to blackmail and exploitation by the Russian government because of his association with Russian prostitutes and that he was burning up the nation's norms and traditions like a 'wildfire'. "He strikes me as a person of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations and knows what's going on", Comey said. But he said Trump's moral qualifications were lacking. "The most important being truth".

The White House and Republican Party have launched an effort to discredit Comey as outlets, including NPR, began reporting on the book's contents last week. Don Regan was an affable yet aggressive former Merrill Lynch chief executive who served President Ronald Reagan as Secretary of the Treasury and then White House Chief of Staff.

The lesson, James Comey said, was to "make something good from evil, from pain, from loss".

'I think it's possible.

"I honestly thought these words would never come out of my mouth, but I don't know whether the current president of the United States was with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow in 2013". It contains unflattering descriptions of both the president and First Lady Hillary Clinton. "My loyalty's supposed to be to the American people and to the institution", Comey said in the interview. I was operating in a world where Hillary Clinton was going to beat Donald Trump. "In fact, though I didn't know for sure, I imagined the presidential suite of the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow was large enough for a germaphobe to be at a safe distance from the activity".

In the exclusive ABC News interview on Sunday night, Comey dismissed claims made by some that Trump was medically unfit to hold office. "This appeared to satisfy him as some sort of 'deal' in which we were both winners".

Touching on one of the more obscene charges against Trump, Comey hinted at the existence of the much-talked-about "pee tape", a video allegedly containing compromising footage of President Trump and sex workers.

However, he did not believe Trump was either mentally incompetent or in the early stages of dementia, as some argue. Her review, headlined "James Comey Has a Story to Tell".

Comey recalls Trump launching unprompted into an explanation 'that he'd never stayed overnight at the hotel, he'd just changed clothes there and went to the Miss Universe pageant'.

His comments will almost certainly escalate his war of words with the president and further erode a relationship marked by open hostility and name-calling. "The Triumph of Politics" is Mr. Stockman's own 1986 explication on this subject.

The former FBI Director who was fired by the president last year sat down with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos and for the first time shared with America his take on Trump.

'I hardly even knew this guy.
