The festivities will include a pep rally.

According to the reasons on the proclamation, the Knights should be national champions because they beat Memphis - a top 25 team - twice, they are undefeated and are the only Division 1 team to have a perfect record and they won their conference's championship. Dyer said that "We are proud of Orlando's Hometown Team and hope fans from across Central Florida will come out to celebrate this memorable season". The committee ranked the Knights, who play in the American Athletic Conference, 12th in the final poll, behind one Power Five conference team with three losses (Auburn) before bowl season began and five others that had two losses.

The unfortunate part of this is that there's no guarantee that a Group of 5 team would get in even with this sort of format.

Last week, Central Florida declared themselves as national champions after beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

Eventually, Frost was allowed into the press box as a discussion about expanding the playoff field to eight teams ironically loomed on a television playing ESPN in the background.

Of course, the controversy of the Knights being left out has lent itself again to a call for an expanded playoff.

What a shocker. Everyone's fix is to make the field bigger.

Alabama coach Nick Saban wasn't fazed at all by UCF's claim, the New York Post reported.
