Johnson says The Last Jedi "will be a little darker" than The Force Awakens, but promises it will not veer too far from the tone of the original trilogy (1977 to 1983), which many fans consider the best part of the series. "But then, (the droid) C-3PO comes up and you're like, 'Oh.' You're constantly figuring out, 'How can I work in this environment', but also, 'This is awesome.' So, it's kind of a balance".

The director of The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, returned to Skellig Michael with his cast in September 2015, picking up the story from the iconic moment in The Force Awakens. Rey has sought out and found Luke Skywalker, a monkish self-isolate on a faraway island of a really faraway planet.

Daisy has suggested the film will reveal the identity of the character's parents.

If I had one significant complaint, it's that the movie is a bit overlong.

"Jedi", in which the royal brothers both play small roles, on the red carpet at the film's European premiere in London on Tuesday.

Fisher died at the age of 60 last December, shortly after completing her final scenes.

"Look alive!" a young female bomber pilot cries early on. Black-clad, ginger-haired General Hux (Irishman Domhnall Gleeson, dripping with superiority) finds his gigantic First Order cruiser with its accompanying heavily-armed dreadnought being challenged by a Fiat-sized Resistance X-fighter piloted by Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and his rolling robo-buddy, BB-8. They're free from establishing characters and winning over the audience. An exploration of the shattered relationship between Luke and his nephew, the malefic warrior Kylo Ren ( Adam Driver ), recalls "Rashomon". It's not been plain sailing with the change, with Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill even finding issue - admitting he only returned because of Harrison Ford. (A dubious character played by Benicio Del Toro isn't sufficiently amusing.) Kylo's inner conflicts, while central to the plot, leave him looking awfully mopey for long periods of time as he struggles to resolve them.

Yet, despite being a blockbuster movie with enormous sets and a sprawling cast, the actors spoke of feeling as if they were making an independent film, albeit one with a reported budget of US$250 million (S$338 million) and a projected global box-office haul in excess of US$1.5 billion.
