Israel deployed anti-rocket systems and raised its security alert on Monday, fearing a retaliatory attack from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, in response to the deadly bombing of Palestinian tunnels in Gaza last month.

The Israel Defense Forces blew up the tunnel, which originated in the Gazan city of Khan Younis and crossed into Israeli territory, near Kibbutz Kissufim, on October 30.

The Iron Dome system, which is created to shoot down short-range rockets and, in some cases, mortars was deployed to counter the threats made by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group, which has vowed to avenge its members killed in the tunnel blast and its aftermath. "We will take a very firm stance against anyone who tries to attack us or attacks us from any area".

"We are aware of the plot that the Islamic Jihad group is planning against Israel", said Mordechai, whose defence ministry unit is known as COGAT.

"We renew our call on countries that believe in the twostate solution to recognize two states", Abbas said in a video message to a rally of thousands of Fatah supporters in the Gaza Strip.

Egypt has been spearheading efforts to reconcile the Palestinian factions, which culminated in an agreement in October to end the 10-year division that plagued the Palestinians following Hamas takeover of power in Gaza in 2007.

Mordechai also addressed the Damascus-based Islamic Jihad leadership, mentioning Ramadan Shalah and Ziad Nakhaleh by name. Take control of events for you will be blamed [for what follows].

Two Israeli civilians, said to be mentally unstable, are also believed to have entered Gaza and to be held by Hamas.

Meanwhile, the head of the Energy Authority, Zafer Melhem, said that work is underway to rehabilitate of electricity network in the Gaza Strip and the minute the plan is ready, it will be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval and then to securing funding for it from the donors.
