Peter Holt, the owner of the WNBA's San Antonio Stars, has reportedly agreed on a deal with a buyer that has plans to relocate the franchise to Las Vegas, according to a Thursday evening report from Michael C. Wright of ESPN.

The sale and relocation of the franchise are subject to approval from the NBA and WNBA Board of Governors. "The sides expect the deal, which has been in the works for some time, to be OK'd because the team will be moved to Las Vegas", the report read.

Without specifying the potential Las Vegas buyer, Spurs Sports & Entertainment sent out a message to fans on Twitter,?offering its "deepest gratitude" to team employees and fans while saying the organization and the WNBA have been in negotiations with a buyer to purchase and relocate the Stars.

The Stars are one of five pro teams owned and operated by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, including San Antonio's NBA team.

Should the Stars move to Vegas, they would join the National Hockey League Vegas Golden Knights, an expansion team finalized in June of last year that begin its opening season earlier this month, and arrive ahead of the NFL Oakland Raiders, who are set to move to Las Vegas in 2019 or 2020 and eventually into a new stadium.

We wanted to share the following information regarding our WNBA San Antonio Stars.

The franchise moved to San Antonio from Utah in 2003. They haven't had a winning season since 2012 and haven't reached the playoffs since 2014. After picking up Kelsey Plum with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, the club has the best lottery odds for 2018. The Las Vegas Golden Knights are currently in the midst of their inaugural season.
