Cubs' Willson Contreras Has Suspension Reduced To 1 Game

Contreras also addressed the possibility of a suspension, stating that he wasn't too worried about the possibility.

His mask hit the umpire on a bounce.

Then there's Hector Rondon, who has elbow inflammation - though no structural damage - and has been shut down indefinitely. Both Contreras and right-hander John Lackey were also ejected and fined for their actions.

The Cubs came into play on Saturday with a record of 81-66 and sat three games in front of the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central Division.

"They're all big; we weren't doing that to lose the game". The Indians' Jason Kipnis got medical clearance to be activated and will play in center field.

Contreras is appealing the suspension. "That can change quickly".

What happens with Cubs and Contreras?

As for Friday's controversy, the ball call by Baker on a 2-2 pitch from Lackey probably wasn't helped by Lackey and Contreras having their signals mixed up. Umpire Jordan Baker called the pitch a ball.

"I love his passion", Maddon said. He motioned to [Baker] from the dugout.

The 25-year-old phenom is in the middle of a spectacular season, currently owning a slash line of.277/.351/.517 with 21 home runs and 73 RBI over 389 plate appearances.

The two talked briefly before Saturday's game, during which time Contreras apologized. But again, I think those things change in a hurry -not a permanent state of affairs. Or is it time for Joe Maddon to give Albert Almora some more time out there? But expecting perfection like that is dangerous. You don't cry in your cereal.

Last season, everything seemed to go the Cubs way. Injuries to the rotation have plagued the Cubs. It could have cost the Cubs the game.
