As Manchester City prepare to launch their 2017-18 assault on the Champions League, manager Pep Guardiola will be well aware of the pressure facing him to make serious advances towards the oft-stated designs of the club's ambitious owners. This promises to be a tough game for the Blues, but City can be considered favorites for a few reasons.

Guardiola appeared to suggest the 34-year-old was not giving enough in training. "I demand as much as possible".

I think we'll get a real statement from City here.

Guardiola said: 'Yaya was so important last season.

"He just wants to be around the team and be in that environment".

They are riding on a 12 matches unbeaten stretch dating back to last season and would love to add a win when they meet Feyenoord in Netherlands today.

Who will come out on top in the battle of the managers Paulo Fonseca or Josep Guardiola?

How has their relationship been recently?

Feyenoord winger Steven Berghuis also said he expected a difficult night in Group F for the hosts, European Cup winners in 1970. He was one of six first team players out of contract at the end of last season but such was his revival, he was the only one to be rewarded with a new deal.

City are Sky Bet's 2/5 favourites for the victory with Feyenoord up against odds of 13/2 despite home advantage, while the draw is priced at 19/5.

The injury-ravaged Belgian defender has been nursing a calf complaint and will not be risked on Wednesday evening.

"I don't know if we are able to compete to win the titles".

What does the immediate future hold?

The Citizens begin their campaign with a trip to face Dutch champions Feyenoord and the match is free for anyone to watch across the BT Sport network.

Ederson resumed training with his team-mates wearing protective headwear due to facial scarring from the incident and was part of City's travelling party on Tuesday.

Man City head into the game on the back of a 5-0 win over Liverpool. It depends on our level.

Feyenoord lost their prolific striker Nicolai Jorgensen through a hamstring injury early in the first half and they will be forced to play without him in Week 1 of the Champions League.
