Rose is reported to have been fined two weeks' wages over the interview, but with the England worldwide having issued a public apology, Pochettino said the matter was closed.

Rose broke ranks this week in an explosive interview in which he said he is worth more than Tottenham are paying him and would consider an offer from another club.

The former Liverpool defender - a one-club man - added: 'We all know about the wage structure they have there, the manager has done a fantastic job to keep Spurs second in the last two years, it can't last forever because players will get unhappy, but you never say that publicly.

"Everybody was praising the talent of this squad, the understanding between players, young players".

"But you know the problem". Although the defender has since apologised for his comments, Pochettino was keen to reassure fans that may have similar concerns to Rose, according to the Mirror. "I don't think it's a matter to joke about because with some of the global players today, maybe one or two years ago, none of us knew them very well", Pochettino said.

"Also when I first arrived here, people wanted to know who Mauricio Pochettino was, too".

His apology came hot on the heels of a number of reports claiming that Rose's departure could provide a mass exodus of Tottenham's best players, who would all stand to earn considerably more away from north London.

And while he accepts players want to move, he says Rose has shown a lack of respect towards his employers.

"I am relaxed because when you see the team and the players they are so focused".

Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign with a hard away trip to Newcastle on Sunday. "It was like, 'Wow, how did he do that?' I mean signings like that are what we need - that's just my opinion".

"He obviously would not want that, because you don't want to be going into a season when the whole team is down".

"I think the team are very united".

Mauricio Pochettino has seen Manchester rivals United and City spend big this summer but claims Tottenham are trying to "win in a different way". You [the press] have access to the other players so you can ask them.
