An 8-year-old Manchester United fan who was handed a runners-up medal by manager Jose Mourinho after the UEFA Super Cup says he wants to win the Ballon d'Or before he turns 20.

However, the United boss insists it is not just down to the Belgian to pick up the slack this term, telling a news conference on Friday: "What I had in other clubs was more players scoring goals".

"In my teams, we always had the goalscorer, we always had the guy who scored more goals, but then we had the winger who scored 15 goals, we had the midfielder who scored 10 goals, we had the central defender who scored goals and last season that didn't happen much". I have seen him work on the field and in the gym.

Manchester United begins its league campaign on Sunday, hosting West Ham. Diego Costa is still there, despite all the rumours, but those could return to unsettle the dressing room. Add in Arnautovic and Ayew who will both have a point to prove, and it's not an ideal first Premier League match.

In July, they sealed a £75m deal to bring Romleu Lukaku in from Everton with Nemanja Matic arriving from Chelsea at the end of the month. "We have to be positive as it's the first game".

"I just think he was very clear showing that what he did last year was not enough for him". They've already got off to a good start with a 1-0 win in the Europa League.

"And for me the medal will go to some place in my house and for that kid it's for sure something to keep and remember. We don't want to come away from any games with any regrets".

The Portuguese manager won the league title in his second full season in charge of FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea again, and feels the sequence can continue. "At the same time, let's make a decision that will make us all happy". Last season two were not. Moreover, there have been recently constant reports suggesting Bale's departure from the Spanish capital, amid links to the Premier League giants. He has done so for three clubs, including for the Seagulls in the League Cup in 2008 - the last time the two sides met.
