With the MLB Trade Deadline less than two weeks ago, plenty of names will begin to surface that the Cleveland Indians are interested in.

According to a tweet by USA Today's Bob Nightengale on Wednesday, the Giants have made Nuñez available and the Red Sox "have their eye" on the infielder as they "desperately" look for another third baseman.

Nuñez's ongoing hamstring issue might be a mild impediment but not an impassable one as the Giants shop him to contending clubs. Nunez is a solid backup for Frazier that brings a much different style of play but also likely at a cheaper price. He is slashing.295/.319/.407 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 69 appearances for the Giants this year.

While Cabrera has almost exclusively played shortstop and second base, Nuñez has played 238 of his 580 career games at third base.

The Red Sox allegedly were close to trading with the Chicago White Sox for Frazier, but the New York Yankees won the sweepstakes Tuesday, landing the 31-year-old and relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle in exchange for right-hander Tyler Clippard and prospects Blake Rutherford, Ian Clarkin and Tito Polo. That would open the door for San Francisco to get more talent in the players they would receive for Nunez. "He had orders to take it easy".
